Alloy Barrier Perforation Isolation Water/Gas Shut Off (Well Intervention)
Bismuth based alloys are ideally suited to flow into perforations to isolate unwanted water and gas.
Alloy can be deployed adjacent to perforations and into perf’ tunnels, flowing into pore spaces and setting as a solid barrier. Water or gas shut-off using an alloy barrier offers a more reliable and precise sealing method than traditional bailed or squeezed cement. Unlike cement, which can shrink, channel, or fail to fully penetrate micro-annuli or perforations, a bismuth-based alloy flows into these spaces in its molten state and expands upon solidification. This expansion allows the alloy to tightly conform to and seal perforation tunnels, cement channels, and annular leak paths, delivering a gas-tight, high-integrity barrier.
